LPU engineering student wins NSS Award, receives it from the President

Gourav Singhal, a final year B.Tech student of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Lovely Professional University, and NSS volunteer, has been conferred with the prestigious NSS Award 2018-19 (National Service Scheme Award 2018-19) for his contribution towards society by Shri Ram Nath Kovind, the honourable President of India. Gourav’s work has also been praised by Kiren Rijiju, Union  Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports GOI. 

Gaurav, who hails from Rohtak, Haryana has contributed to society in the field of health & wellness and girls’ education. He conducted over 150 yoga and spirituality camps as well as street plays to make people aware of the “Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao” campaign in Rohtak and Jhajjar districts of Haryana. He also worked extensively with other NSS volunteers for Swachh Bharat Mission. Gourav has been selected for the award out of 32 lakh NSS volunteers in 298 universities, 42 school councils and vocational institutions of the country. Gourav is the youngest one from the North Zone who won the accolades.

 Commenting on his achievement, Ashok Mittal, Chancellor LPU said, “We are extremely proud of Gourav’s achievement. It is not common to have such dedication and commitment for public service at his age. We salute his efforts and will provide him all the necessary help to continue his mission of creating awareness towards social initiatives.”
